Family support

SPAN's Parenting Support Team works to support parents with the issues that affect their lives, housing, benefits, training, employment, health, debt, domestic violence, immigration, relationships and so on.

We always focus on the parents and their children's relationship and support parenting by using Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities Parenting Programme, short specific tailored programmes and 1:1 parenting work.

Our team includes Annie Oliver, Manager; Sally Williams, Parenting Support Worker; Suad Yusuf, Somali Parenting Support Worker; and Jason Edwards, Fathers Support Worker, along with Student Social Workers and Volunteers. Lynn Campbell supports the team with administrative work and we employ facilitators to support learning programmes.

We work with agencies across the city and run workshops and training for the police, children's centres, voluntary sector organisations, community groups, schools and statutory organisations.

We have worked with parents with learning difficulties, parents with substance misuse, BME families, refugees and asylum seekers, victims of domestic violence, perpetrators of domestic violence, teenage parents and many others. We aim to provide a holistic service meeting parents needs wherever we can. We advocate, mentor and work towards empowering parents to be able to provide solutions to their own problems in the future.
