Single Parent Action Network
Empowering – Connecting – Campaigning

Campaigning is at the heart of SPAN. We are passionate about doing all we can to help families break through poverty and disadvantage.

We work with many children, young people and families who face incredibly difficult situations. Our campaigns are rooted in our experience, and the work we do directly with families living in poverty and disadvantage which gives us insight and expertice. We put single parents at every level of our campaigning and help them to speak for themselves as often as possible. Many of our members of staff and trustees are single parents and also get involved.

We need your help

But we can't do it alone. With your help we can really turn up the volume and make our voices heard by the people with the power to change things.

It is only by speaking out that we can challenge the status quo. Positive change comes from debate, meaning we have a duty to put forward an alternative view - whenever it's necessary and whatever the issue - to force this and every government to think hard about how best to meet the needs of single parent families and other families facing disadvantage and exclusion.
Change won't happen overnight. In fact, it may take generations. But this doesn't mean we can't achieve positive results along the way. That's why SPAN will campaign for as long as it takes.

You can get involved in our campaigning work in different ways:

  • If you are a single parent – share your story with us and decision makers. Take part in surveys and research projects. Sign up for our media group, which includes parents who are happy to talk to the media.
  • If you are a researcher, journalist or just somebody interested in supporting our cause - you can work alongside us gathering evidence and share stories. You can also help us to highlight issues and showcase our work through for example social media.
